Excluding Objects

Hi I have a scene with background plane, foreground text object, lights and LinearSkylight.

I don't want the linearSkyLight to affect the floor, so am trying to exclude one from the other.

But I can't seem to get the correct procedure for this.

In general what works?
Do I exclude light from object or object from light..
Do clones work or do you need to place children of clone in exclusion..
Etc etc

It should be - Skylight - project - exclude - Drag your plane into the objects list. { in the lights settings } If I understood you properly.

Clones will be included with the parent light.

Clones set to "render instance" don't work with lights.

I am assuming clones also means instances?
