Space switching for IK arm > How to present controls to animator?

I'm working on writing a modular character rigging tool. I want to be able to have the IK arms switch from world space to another object/s. I know I can use the position/orientation constraints or the link constraint. But how can I present the animator with a very simple and easy to understand control system? Preferably something that can be added to an attribute holder that can also be saved and loaded easily with the XML animation saving.
