Game Concept Environment, Ken Henderson (2D)

Title: Game Concept Environment
Name: Ken Henderson
Country: United States
Software: Photoshop

I'm doing a series of game concept environments for a project. I've been given a video grab of a scene and then I've painted over it in Photoshop to give it the mood and feel they're looking for. After these are all done I'll be painting the textures to try and replicate the feel of these paint-overs.

The top image is the source file, the bottom is the completed paint over.

Any comments appreciated.

Thumbs up

I like how you painted the scene in the second picture. It makes me want to go swimming. Overall, the softness of the image really captures the beauty of nature and how the water would fall off the rocks into the larger pool. Good job!

very nice

i like the overall feel of this picture. indeed, it makes me wanna dive right in there.
technically, i think the perspective of the two 'spires' are not entirely "in sync" with the perspective of the environment.

Thanks!

Yah... the lantern spires were an afterthought by the Art Director. I threw them in in about 40minutes to round out the piece. As well... the base pic is a video capture from some funky in-game camera so the perspective is a bit wonky to begin with.... I agree with you though. I think they're close enough to give a sense of the "feel" of the place, which is what these images are for. If this were a more polished render I'd go back and fix all the inconsistencies for sure...

Chalk it up to the "vision" of the Art Director...
