3D scene and 3D lighting

Hi, everyone. I haven't been very active here for a while, but I'm getting back in gear and I want to improve some works so I'm hoping everyone can give some tips so I can make these really awesome. I attached them to this post.

My first one is an outdoor scene that I have developed. It started as a logo in Flash then I wanted to really make it great so I modeled some of the elements in Maya and put it all together in After Effects.

The second was done completely in Maya. I thought a lighted glass Rubik's cube would be interesting and I might make it the center of a composition, perhaps being a light in a 3D scene, but I want to perfect it first.

I appreciate any feedback anyone can give and I look forward to getting back to being involved on this site. Thanks in advance.
