Best way to send a showreel?

Hi all,

I have a showreel and I would like to send it out to apply for a job, my question how is it best to do so?

I haven't yet finalised the showreel but it will certainly be too large to email. If I upload to youtube I presume the quality of the showreel will be reduced, would vimeo be a better choice?, or dropbox?.. I'm guessing sending any link which needs to be downloaded is a bad idea. I don't want to upload it to my personal website as I cannot make the work public.

Send a message via MSN to copain
If you have your own webspace, why not just host it on there, no one will see it except the people that know the link

Forgot to say the other reason I don't want it on my website is that the work on there is not up to date, basically I don't want them to see that work. I need to send the application out pretty quickly so haven't got time to work on the website.

I would just upload to Youtube or Vimeo, both can do HD video that I think is acceptable quality

If you didn't want to use those you could use Dropbox as a place to host the file

Vimeo will allow you to password protect videos; if you have stuff that can't be shown publicly, just send a link along with the password.

Youtube allows you to keep a video visible only to people you give the link to.
I like to learn.

Studios usually specify their preference for receiving reels. Listen to that.

Vimeo's pretty good but definitely check the employer's site first.

I am not an artist, but a musician. But the same general rules apply. Send the potential employer (in my case client) what they want and how they want it.

If you don't want them to see your old work, create a new site. Most hosting packages nowadays are shared hosting.... you can get another domain for just a few dollars, and use the account you already have to host the new site. It won't cost you anything else per month. Send that new site to potential employers, and you are good to go.
