Exactly... Autodesk M&E head should stop this self-destruction.
But, we are talking about the evil force who killed their own baby, Softimage.
It is ironic that the SI blood kicked out AW blood.
Then they sacrifice Softimage, Mudbox, Image Modeler, Matchmover, Stitch for Maya's well being.

Again, just don't listen what Autodesk marketing says and do whatever you want to do with 3dsMax!

Perhaps decent Architectural-images are all that are submitted to Autodesk on account of them being the easiest.

Is it normal that every Arnold learning scene crashes Max when I try to render or open the render setup?

Tried the village scene on max 2018, works normally, try getting the latest version of Arnold from the solid angle site.

Softimage was passed around a lot. Softimage, then Microsoft (sold for a profit), then Avid (sold for a loss), and finally Autodesk. The fact that Avid sold it for a loss indicates that it was not in a healthy situation.

Don't blame Autodesk for abandoning the sinking ship and death of Softimage. Microsoft 4 years $155 million profit then Avid 10 years $250 million loss.

You misundetood what I said.
They in "their" means Autodesk M&E head. Not Autodesk.
Check out all Autodesk M&E head profiles.
They are mostly ex-SI guys.

If I can recall the senior M&E execs, none of them came from Softimage, except for Marc Stevens.
Some of the misc developers and support people are still at Autodesk, some stayed in M&E, others moved around.

As for Softimage itself, the fact that Avid sold it wasn't because it was in bad shape - XSI was doing well and the company was in the black. It was Avid divesting in that part of its business and folio.

Avid was in dire problems and they needed cash fast much more than the small profit that Softimage was giving them. Softimage wasn't core to Avid main products so it was sold.

Softimage was safe when Marc Petit and others were there. After they went out, Softimage was dropped.

so see this thread here:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-...rt/td-p/7026046

and in a video above it says "...we've got a greatly simplified Welcome screen"

so if one can't even get a greatly simplified Welcome screen to work....I guess that rules out an 'elaborate/sophisticated most wonderous' Welcome screen in the next update ?

How about Marc Petit?
Yes, Marc Stevens is in charge of Maya and all others except 3dsMax.

Why do they advertise blended box map as a 2018 feature?
