Rendering problems

I use alias maya, and my rendering doesn't seem as crisp and clear as some of the stills i have seen i this site. Do people use a different rendering program or is there something wrong with my picture?

Thanks - LOTRfn88

Check the quality of your anti-aliasing in render globals; that's the key to getting crisp, clear renderings. Make sure you render to an uncompressed format such as .tif files. Also look at your shadows: use raytraced shadows for the most crisp edges; dmap shadows render more quickly but are slightly soft.
