Asking models for lighting/rendering purposes

Is it common practice to ask 3D scenes from modelers for the purpose of lighting/rendering? Or would I be viewed with suspicion? As a lighter in training, I wish to focus on lighting instead of spending time modeling but I don't know of any site that hands out complex 3d scenes (especially organic character models).

I would of course give 100% credit to the original artist, but I don't know if this common practice or not. Thanks.

I do not see a problem with it, probably quite a few willing to donate scenes/models to light.

Also a tip, there are quite a few scenes for the Lighting Contest here by CG Society, as well as free models/scenes by Turbo Squid.

Ton of free models, just follow the license(stated before downloading, practically all of it is free), and you can export obj. or whatever from blender to your program.
