Sprite Creating

I've been looking around for some tutorials on how to create sprite/pixel art. You know, backgrounds animations, that sort of thing. I haven't found any concise tutorials so I was wondering what the community at large had to offer.

I use after effects to create all of the sprite sheets I did for a for a game with my friend. The reason I did that is because I can make a composition with all of the animation I want, then I can make another composition which is larger and lay out all of the frames really easily. Just by offsetting the timing one frame and also the position of the composition.

I worked out that for character animation and particle systems. If you want to see the game for reference, its Robot Candidate in the app store for iPad. Hope that helps!
