Strange Re-linking Problem
I've been having a strange problem with After Effects as of late related to re-linking footage to a project.
I'm currently doing a project for a friend overseas. He sent me the RAW footage he filmed on (with a cannon 5D camera) and along with it the project. There are two versions on the project. V1 and V2. In V1 there are a few slight differences in the cut of the film, and V2 is a more refined version of it.
Now I go in and try to re-link all the footage. It works for V1 however whenever I try to re-link for V2, it does something strange in the timeline. When I view the footage in the timeline, rather then cutting how it should, it just cuts right to where the RAW footage starts.
Here's an example. In shot 1 the Brown Wizard looks down from the tower, cut to shot 2, the Black Wizard approaches and shoots a fire ball towards the tower. Now when I try to re-link the footage, in the timeline both shot 1 and shot 2 start right at the beginning of the RAW footage before the director shouts action.
Upon further observation between the compositions of V1 and V2 and realized that in V1 you have the ghost trails left behind by RAW footage that was spliced and cut together, where as in V2 in the timeline, the footage dosent give off the ghost trails. Rather the footage is precisely as long as the actual cuts, I can't expand it.
After asking my friend about it he tells me that he exported the V1 composition as an EDL, brought it into premier, did some modification to the cut and the re-exported as another EDL and brought it back into After Effects, labeling it V2.
I'm hoping to find out what exactly caused this problem and more importantly how to solve it. My friend isn't quite too tech savy and I'm still learning myself, so if anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.
