WIP basketball animation, problem for rigging the net

Hello to everyone !

First of all sorry for my english I am french speacker...

first of all this is my WIP :
http://blog.designhero.tv/2013/12/3d...animation-wip/

I did this in 4 day for a NBA fan video.
All my shots are done, but I can't finish one in dynamic, the ball should cross the hoop and interact with.

How can I do ?

I am really stuck...

I put 2 version of the hoop into the files, one in mesh and other in spline.
this is the real NBA hoop shape and not a simple clothe with texture on.
For the rest I am not a 3D artist but a director and motion designer.

here the file :

It will be great if someone can help me... I am just stuck right now...
Thank you !!

Off the bat, I would do a simple cloth simulation on a simple geometry and then use a mesh deformer to drive the hi-rez net with the lo-rez cloth sim.

Edit :Just tried with a surface deformer and it works better with a single sided cloth sim apparently.

a proper set up cloth mesh and perhaps linked as mesh deformer would do the trick in my opinion.
This is just a hunch.

kind regards mogh

Ok guys !

Both of these options seems good to me !

Since I am a really rookie in 3D, did you know any tutorial where I can lurn that ?
Thank you so much already !

I'll keep you posted with the final video !

Hi EricM !

Definitly !
This solution is the more realistic !

My only concern is the way the ball react with the cords.
The penetration is not really matching perectly with the surface of the ball and the surface of the net...

I found a starting of explenation about this technical problem here :

https://vimeo.com/62348965

But not really a solution, because definitly, clothe is the most realistic option.

For the rest, thanks to CGTALK users, this community is definitly the best in the world...

Thank you so much !

Y E S !

Just found it !!!

The solution is basically not mix rigid body (for the falling dynamic ball) with clothe collider.

If you want a realistic collision in between clothes and dynamic clothe collider object, you just need to bake your dynamic object first.

Then you have an animated object with a clothes collider only.

Now it just working perfectly !!

Actually it's a pretty good trick !

Thank you so much for all your help and also to base80 and EricM who provided me 2 different and excellent rig solutions.

Thank you so much, without you I cannot make it !!! !
