Bforartists 1.0.0 final released

This is it. Version 1.0.0 is gold. This development cylce is finished. Many thanks for all the help and support. Thanks to the team members. Enjoy Bforartists

The download can as usual be found in the download section. https://www.bforartists.de/content/download

We have also as usual first the Windows binaries ready. The Mac version will most probably follow this weekend. We have unfortunately still no good news for Linux. No maintainer anymore. But you can always build it by yourself. The source code is at Github. And the advice how to compile Blender works for Bforartists in the same way.
The release notes are located here: https://www.bforartists.de/wiki/bfo...releasenotev100

The changes between RC1 and the full version aren't really worth mentioning it. We just catched two last minute things.

I have still to point at Cuda in the 32 bit Windows version. GPU rendering may or may not work for you. Cuda 9 doesn't support the outdated 32 bit architecture anymore. I have compiled the 32 Bit version with Cuda 8 now. But it throws still an error with my Nvidia 1060. So expect GPU rendering not to work in the 32 Bit version. Please upgrade to a 64 Bit Windows in this case. It is more than time!

For those who doesn't know Bforartists yet,Bforartists is a complete 3D suite to create 3D content. It offers you the full 3D art pipeline to create game graphics, prerendered movies and stills. From modeling, sculpting, texturing, rigging, animation, rendering, up to post processing. Have a look at the features page to find out more.

Bforartists stands for Be For Artists. A reminder to develop for the user, not the programmer.

Bforartists is a fork of the popluar open source 3d software Blender. With the goal to improve the UI and usability. Bforartists 1.0.0 is based at Blender version 2.79b.

Thanks Rainer. Btw, Bfoartists is featured in this video:

Also, Vanilla Blender users seem to be sloooowly waking up to the fact the Blender needs a UI overhaul big-time:

Thanks. Yes i know

And yes, Blender 2.8 will come with lots of UI changes. They do lots of things right at the moment. I love it

Maybe. But for many, many years Blender users aggressively attacked anyone who suggested any kind of UI changes on their forums. This is not an intelligent community at all in my opinion. A lot of failure to think critically happens on the Blender forums, and has for years. And Blender lost tens of thousands of potential users because of these fanboy-idiots who thought that their at best D-grade UI design is an AAA-grade UI design.

Wake me when these people act more like a decent, open-minded open source community, and less like a bloody poor UI workflow worship society.

The purpose of open source tools is that they are open to everyone, and useful to everyone who needs them. Blender users remind me more of early Maya or Max fanboys who can't take even small criticism of their very special software.

Blender is just a 3D app. And without a good UI, its a mediocre 3D app at best.

Its a tragedy that the one actually free, open-source and capable 3D software in the world that even financially poor people and students can afford to use refused for over a decade to get a better UI.

I'm very glad you made Bforartists. I have tried Blender about once every year ever since - I think it was in 1999 or so - a demo version of Blender came free on a 3D magazine cover CD.

The UI logic never worked for me at all. I could never see myself working with this strange software every day for months.

Bforartists clicked with me after about 1 hour of exploring the UI and trying to do this and that. Much better than Blender.

Imagine if Blender had had a good UI like C4D's 10 years ago. Imagine how many Blender users there would be today, and how much 3D content would have been made with Blender over the years.

So... thanks for the fork, Tiles!

To those wondering what the differences are between this and Blender.

I guess i have to make a new video for it. The current one is already over a year old. And lots has changed since then. Geez, time is running when you have fun ...

You should call the video "Interface Wars: Episode I" and also have the Star Wars text-crawl against stars at the opening.

Hi
I have played with this new fork for two days now.
And I have determined that this will be my default Blender for now.
I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that the devs have includedpopular PBR library material presets as well as support for all of my favorite third party themes and addons such as the dynamic skies and the Smart IBL plugin.
It is also great that they have made it equally user friendly for
those who prefer mouse interaction over keyboard shortcuts.
Excellent work mates!

Yes, very well done. I hope that over time, Bforartists gets better and better.

Blender main trunk has dragged its feet for so many years about improving the UI that I do not have huge confidence in them delivering a new UI before 2020 or so.

Eevee - when complete - would be a dream to use in the Bforartists UI...

Eevee comes already with a new UI. Which makes me headache at the moment. On the one hand it comes with lots of UI improvements and changes. They have even icon buttons in the tool shelf now. On the other hand it seems to continue the mess with the double menu entries.

Either way, we need to wait until Siggraph. Then we can say if and how we continue.
