motion system bug (breaks my workflow)

So, I have this bug.. bear with me while Im trying to explain

Example

I have a scene with a cube, I animate the cube down, then add to motion clip, save clip.. animate the cube up, add to motion clip, save clip. Save scene with motion system tag on the cube and a clip on the timeline.

Then, I Add the first scene as a xref in a new scene, select the xref cube, change the clip on the motion system, then save.

Upon reopening the scene, the changes I did to the motion system of the xref cube are lost.

Why is this happening?

it's not just with motion clips... if you for instance try to alter a material of an x-ref, it will also revert to its original state when you reopen the file. idk if this is intended behaviour or a bug, but it would be kinda stupid if this was intended behaviour. if we have the option to edit parameters on an xref, the changes should save with the file, anything else makes no sense to me. at first i thought there might be a checkbox somewhere to tick, but i couldn't find anything.... afaik its always been that way, at least since r14, really annoying...
