Wip Weapon Set

I want to take a Old weapon set I made back in 2008 and make it high quality and game ready
(why: to increase my skills lvl and to hopefully put it in a game I want to make check out txt for game stats )

I have started on the first main sword this is what I got so far



I want to keep with a bit of wow art style because I want my game to have a rom/wow art

any crits thoughts are really wanted

I no the rune area looks bad but I am not sure how to fix this

I decided to add one more sword to the set


its the final forum of the weapon
to activate: why in Life forum slam the sword into the ground it makes a holy explosion and the top blade disappears the hilt changes and a new blade comes out around the gem

on attack it shoots out a small version of one of the other blades doing its effect on target
and on being hit it has 25% of spawning one of the other weapons that fight along side the user for 15 secs (max spawn at one time is 4)

I have also decided to model the runes but I figure they will cost about 2k quad and 4ktris

making the each weapon about 8k tris (is this to many )

I textured and normal map it and made it a bit more ultimate looking

I think I have a bit much bump on the blade

I want the blade to look more crystal like(like the gem) tho but its hard to do on such a big scale any tips ?

Ok I modeled the runes and I intersected them with the sword making the sword have the runes run threw the blade instead of come out of the blade this makes it look cool but makes the poly mesh very messy I dont think this effects the quality in game tho

latter to day I am going to import it into oblivion to see if it looks good or not in a game

I am not 100% happy with the messy poly I end up with around the runes so I am very open for crit and Suggestion

poly count on the sword when triangulated is about 3.8k

here is the death rune re done




the left is default color )( The middle is the old )( and the right is death color

I am going to have to make the runes on this displacement map or some thing because with out runes its 4.7k tri and with its 9k

Is there a way to add the runes to the mesh and then bake it as displacement

I dont own zbrush or mudbox

I do own and use Maya tho

here is a wire shot



the blade cant have any less poly without messing up quad and making it messy or making the curve not flow smoothly at all

the sword guard on death I think I am going to delete the 2 edge loops in the middle on both sides saving about 200-300 poly

I tried removing polys on the neck of deaths hilt but when I do it looses the refine elegant look

overall I am very pleased with the look Terra has in game it could use some more bump but not much I think

EarthQuake is done(no normal map yet) its the 2nd rune




it has 2k poly quad with out runes 4k with 4.3k tri with out 8.1k tri with

any crit thoughts welcome

I redid Aero the third rune

its about 1.3k quad and 2.5k tri the arrow is 478 quad and 910 tri (not including runes)

I try to make it like you were holding lighting that bounced around the handle and then shot off

this one has 1.1k quad and 2.3k tris

I redid Hoar Frost the 5th rune



pic (left) hoar frost remodeled with default textures
Pic (center) old Hoar frost
pic (right) hoar frost remodeled with Ice texture overlay


it has 1.5k quad and 3k tri poly

Over all I am well pleased with the look of this one the ice color really looks neat IMO

I was trying to make a sword that look a serpents tongue and a hilt that look like some venomous beast

I have a AO a AM (_G or spec map) slight defuse map (dont like it tho any one have a good defuses map tut ) and the runes added as normal map as swag suggested but as you see that's ugly and I dont like it !
( that and _n maps makes all seems very visible any way to fix this?)
at this point I think zbrush or mudbox is going to be the only way ill get the runes the way I want


swords is 1.3k quad and 2.6k tris I will get some wires sooner or latter I just keep forgetting cause every time I go to do it I get caught up doing some thing ells lol
