The Mari Channel tutorials

Hello

I got this blog called The Mari Channel. At the moment im doing a introduction to Mari series and later on im going to do project based material.

Great, thank you! Hope you can include some tutorials on painting metals as thats where I face problems (with the specular weight, scratches and grime etc)

Its on the radar. There is going to be one regarding shaders soon. After the introduction series Im aiming to make project specific material.

I can understand that the node graph will be really powerful if you work with procedural textures, but if you're painting the textures specific to places or areas you want, isn't the layers system more helpful?

I guess its a personal preference, to me its easier to re use and share paint when in nodegraph as I tend to paint with look development in mind. If you are used to a layer based workflow then nodes might seem overkill at first.
Also You can pre bake larger portions of complexity when in nodegraph wity the bake point nodes. When in layer mode its a bit more overhead and complex to perform these kind of operations.
