Beak character

Hey I am currently modeling a beaked character that i am hoping to rig up in a few weeks now I am having some issues figuring out how to go about the topology around the mouth for good lip synch. I'm assuming it just has to do with many edge loops and blend shapes around the mouth of the beak. I don't simply want the beak working on a hinge. If you can help me figure this out with some solid reference or possibly a tutorial I would be greatly appreciative.
