Official thread of "here's a painting in progress and IDK what I'm doing"..

Honestly, IDK where to go with this. I was trying to find digital paint vids on doing night time city scenes, but nothing.

Overall, it's just practice. Any suggestions and tips would be welcome. I don't expect a masterpiece from this.

one thing I find daunting is the windows. Not knowing the best technique for them.

Are you using references of real cityscape scenes backlit by the sun and reflecting on water? If not, you should collect some proper references and study them, because at your current level, you don't have the necessary knowledge to try to fake things on your own without consulting/following references extensively. It takes a while to build up enough foundation knowledge, skill, and visual memory to be able to do a decent piece without using reference, and even so, professional concept artists/illustrators use references all the time for a more authentic look.

There are many issues in your image (and those in your portfolio), and they're all related to basic fundamentals, and my suggestion is this: If you are serious about wanting to become a better artist, then take the time and focus on your foundation studies, as that is the only way to excel effectively in your artistic development. If you haven't done so, make sure you read the sticky threads in the Art Techniques & Theories forum (linked below in my signature). It was created especially to guide and mentor people who are serious about their artistic development.
