Maya displacement map problem

Hi all
Ive been trying to find a solution for this all day watching tutorials about it on youtube, but couldn't figure it out.

I created a displacement map in Xnormals program and tried to assign it in Maya however when i render it, it goes crazy.
this is my low res model
and this is the displacement map im trying to project to get all the details back from the hi res to the low res model
and when i render it with mental ray i get this
heres my hypershade to show how its assigned

I would appreciate any help on this, thanks

Try to do following....

1. Select the model and apply Displacement approximation.
(You can find it in "Windows>Rendering Editors>mentalray>Approximation editor. When window appears click on Create on Displacement. and let the settings default.
2. For the Displacement map node, change the "alpha offset" to " -half the value of alpha gain". ex: AG = 1, AO = -0.5 or AG = 0.5, AO = -0.25

try this

apply displacement approximation to your model. (you can find it in Windows>Rendering Editors>mental ray> approximation editor.

for displacement map node, change the values of alpha gain & alpha offset to 0.5 & -0.25.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried doing what you said, but it still doesnt look right
then changed it some more and managed something a bit better
but it should look like this, this is with the normal map only
