Mental ray output render pass only?

Hi all!
I would like to know if there is a way to output only the renders passes using mental ray. The thing that i did a render where i had 7 passes (including the master beauty) and the indirect pass was wrong. Thats why im curious about how to output only a specific pass without outputting the masterbeauty.

Thanks in advanced!

Bernardo.

You can turn off the other passes, but renderers typically require a beauty render to produce any other passes (it has to see and sample the whole scene or the anti-aliasing won't match).

Why was just the indirect diffuse pass wrong?

Hi!
ohhh i see... so that's why is not possible. i ended up turning off the other passes and doing the whole render again.

the indirect pass had some random splotches all over the animation, at the end i found out was caused because i increase from 1 to 3 the value of an hdri i had attach in the environment slot of all the metal materials shading group, i put it back to 1 and all splotches were gone but all the metals were darker.

do you know another way to increase the hdri strength? cause in this case increasing the value seems to introduce some splotches.

thanks for the reply!

You can increase the filter setting on Final Gather to 1. It might darken the indirect lighting some but reduces splotches.

If you're lighting with an HDR I would suggest using the Native IBL from mental ray (NOT the 'emit light Maya IBL) or the user_ibl_env in Maya 2013 and greatly reducing the accuracy of the FG. Should be cleaner and easier to render.
