Can't select edges sometimes

Anyone have this issue? Sometimes I can't select an edge unless I zoom out really far, which can be a pain if I need to select something really specific. Like the current thing I'm working on it won't select a specific edge, it will select some smaller edges though, and any other sub-object type works fine. Had this issue forever.

Also had the issue where it stops changing between shaded and wireframe from the F3 key.

This is all in Max 2012

Yes I have this too. I think that it's worst when the edge in question is near the front clip plane. The edges are drawn, but not selectable. They also disappear and reappear.

Maybe the thing that's selectable isn't actually the drawn poly or edge, but some hidden buffer and they're clipped at different distances.

There's another similar issue where if you have ignore backfaces checked and zoom in really close it doesn't work and back faces get selected anyway.

I have this problem often, or it'll select a neighbor edge instead. It depends on scene scale, zooming, etc. I've found that switching to Orthographic will fix the problem, in Orthographic it isn't 'confused' about what you're trying to select.
