Collision Strength Map?

Hi all,

Has anyone managed to use a Collision Strength Map (nCloth)?

To me, it seems it just doesn't work! Is there any special trick?

Tried with a simple scene, made a plane, attached a white texture with a black hole in the middle, connected it to CollideStrengthMap.
No effect. Everything collides everywhere.

Thanks for any input.

Did you made the connection by hand or did you let Maya do the connection for you ?

it seems that all maps on nCloth needs outAlpha as input.
i ran in a lot of trouble when using inputAttract lately. it seems that when you remap something like a noise or other stuff the map does not work properly.

and !!! -> its really weird or strange, some maps only work when texturing in the viewport is on... and you dont have "use default material" checked.

Partial success!
It works when I connect the outAlpha from the texture.

However, I need it to go through a Projection first. (My collision object is moving around, but I need the "collision hole" to stay put in space)

I've connected the texture properly to the Projection, but it doesn't function.

Thanks deHeavy! Now I need to find the last piece of the puzzle...

I'm pretty sure as with all dynamics. the procedural and projected textures need to be baked first before you can use them.

noticeus, thanks for your input.
In that case I have to abandon my approach and rethink.

I need to disable collisions in a specific place, while the collider (not visible) moves in and out. Other parts of the collider need to be colliding at all times, so I can't simply animate Collide Strength. And it must be a single object.

Tricky thing.

you could try SOuP and create a bounding object to transfer vertex color to your collision object which could then be used as a collisionMap or you could delete faces based on the bounding object.

Thanks, but it's much to complicated for such a simple thing. I will be using an Air field to push the particles instead of by a moving surface.

That SOup stuff looks cool, I'd like to understand it some day.

Not in front lf maya atm, but you can use the constraint to animate collide on off of a set of vertices.
