changing cat muscle strand deformer type?

hi there everyone
im having a bit of a problem changing a cat muscle strand deformer type
from bone to mesh or back

found this in the help file:
<CATMuscle>.DeformerType String default: "Bones" -- String
but im failing at using it in a code like : selected muscle starnd . deformer type = bone
i cant reach the "deformer type" in the selected muscle

any and all help will be apretiated

It says it's a string so it probably has to be wrapped in quotes ie. $.DeformerType = "bones". Though I'm getting a **system exception** every time I even try to access the .deformerType property so I don't know for sure.

If I put in the listener "show $" I get:
.DeformerType : TSTR
.MuscleName : TSTR
.Colour : color
etc. etc...

So it's clearly a property of the object but when I try to access it...

$.DeformerType returns **system exception**
$.MuscleName returns "CATMuscle001"
$.Colour returns (color 8 61 138)

???
