hair&fur + gradient

hey guys,

I'm not sure it's possible what i want to achieve, but if there's a way, i'm sure one of you knows it.

I have quite a large field of detailed grass, which of course results in a long render time. I'm using scattering, but i could also use hair&fur/displacement. In any case, maaany many many polygons. I'm currently at 4.00.000 polygons just on the grass alone, and the density is still not high enough.

now i know there is a 'gradient map' which lets you fade out a material, making the effect smaller and smaller over a distance.
Is there perhaps a way to do that with scattered objects?(or hair&fur) i know you can choose to align 'along edges' and stuff, bu i'd like the density to be very high in the middle of the field, and very low on the sides.

is there anyone who could help me with this? i'd be very much obliged^^

Hair & Fur has a density by Map this could be used to feather off the grass.
So does Particle Flow which could be used ?

Maybe look at this ......

As mentioned, use a gradient ramp map set to radial(or box depending on what you're after) in the hair mod's density slot. This will give you a centre-to-edges fade. It also has the benefit of easy customisation by setting flags on the ramp.
