I find Guido Reni and Corregio also very inspiring. Maybe it is because I like their typus of classical beauty so much.

I just bought a book by jack vettriano - anyone heard of him?
Really cool noir-esque paintings.
Its really tricky finding some decent pics online - these arent really representive of his film noir style.

Damn! I wish i could actually paint!

Yup, really like a lot of his work.

I also just bought a book of his stuff the other week in one of those discount bookshops, I was meaning to scan some of it and post it here.

Edit: I already put a couple of my favorites earlier in the thread..

Jack Vettriano... I didn't know his name but a couple of those pics are familiar Andy. He sounds like a Chicago gangster. The Vettriano Mob.... That last one of the girl putting on her lipstick is very... er... aesthetic....

Mohanned - Right click on the picture, copy the image address, click on the insert image icon in the compose a reply box here on CGTalk and paste the address in there. Should work...

I really like the topmost one Sylanya. Really easy on the eye, if that's what it's called.

I love the gruesome! Gentileschi has a crazy story behind her, because she was raped by her art mentor, and then painted the same scene of Judith and Holofrenes over, and over, and over, and over again. The story of Judith is that Holofrenes was a general beseiging the Jews, and Judith snuck into his tent, seduced him with wine, waited until he was asleep, and lopped off his head to take back to her people. She has a lot of Susanna and the Elders, too, which is a biblical story in which the town elders harass Susanna and the like.

Oh, and that particular picture that you posted, poshspice, was one that I my AP European Studies teacher had on her wall, and I definately stared at it all day instead of taking notes. Her dress fascinated me, and especially the way she reached out towards the anvil.
