Help with FBX export

I have an animated rig with a skin. When I export an .fbx and try opening it again all the controllers are there and they are still animated but the skin is no longer attached to the bones.

I have "Bake" checked on my settings and I tried to bake the animation beforehand as well but it doesn't work.

When I export I get the following error messages:
Warning: unsupported "By Layer" mode
Warning: Geometry conversion

It is also worth mentioning that I tried to export an animation test without using the controllers (animated the bones directly) and it worked fine.

Does anybody know what could be the problem?

To get rid of the "By Layer" error just go in to the object properties per object and and under Display Properties click the "By Layer" button and it'll change to "By Object". Make sure all your exported objects are set this way. It's easiest to do this with the Layer Manager.

The "Geometry Conversion" I'm not so sure about but I've had luck by only selecting the bones and the skinned mesh and using "Export Selected" instead of the regular "Export".

Not sure if that'll solve your problem but it's worked for me getting stuff in to Unity.

Thanks for the reply.
I did that and it got rid of the errors but I still had the problem with the exporting, the mesh is still not attached to the bones.

I just noticed in another file that I am also getting "Error: Invalid face(s) (1)"
and the character mesh is the affected node.
