pflow -> need help creating random "fade in" of particles

Hi, ive been trying to get a specific animation to work for a while now and i cant figure it out yet. I hope i can explain this well though.
I have 180 cubes which together form a screen and i want to create an animated transition for their entrance. the movement is not a problem.. only the fade in of the objects.
I need to know how i can smoothly fade in these cubes but randomly.
I used a birthscript -> (converting cubes into particles) in the pf-source and i have only age test and material dynamic in the event so now the particles "cubes" appear randomly.

The issue is that i want the beginning of a fade in (opacity 0) to start on every frame that a new particle emits.
so if i have variation 10 on age test.. and on frame 1 i have a few boxes appear, their opacity should be 0. Now on frame 2 their opacity should be for instance 5, but in the same time in frame 2 there will be another few particles that will start to emit and in that frame they will also have 5 opacity. but what i want for those new particles is 0 opacity...

If anyone knows how to solve this issue, please let me know. thanx

These cubes are an instanced shape? If so, animate the source object's opacity and create the offset in the Shape Instance operator.

thanks for your reply,
Yes they are instanced, but if i create shape instance operator, can I select all the instanced cubes and will they be in the same position as they are in the scene?

Thanks

You only need to select one cube. For the positioning you'll need some scripting.

solved

Thx for the help.. very fortunately i managed to solve the issue through 3ds max help. link below.

http://download.autodesk.com/us/3ds...Number=d28e3788

What i didnt know is that i gotta have a "delete" operator for the particles to know their age.
after that i added "particle age" on the opacity of my standard material.

after that i still had the same problem.. but in the material dynamic operator i didnt tick the "reset particle age".. after i ticked it, i got the results i was looking for..

Thanx for ur help.
