Help Me :)

Hello everyone,
Let me start by saying i love lighting as it really brings out the beauty in a scene,
but there are things that i wanna add to a scene, but then it kills the render time... So i looked around and learned to create render layers and passes... it has drastically changed the speed of rendering, but it leaves me with a huge problem... when i composite it, it does not come the way i want it to come... and i am sure that it is because i have very little knowledge about blending two layers..... What i mean is i know how to use blending option, (multiply divide add... so and so) what i don't know is when to use what...
So i was hoping if some one could guide me as to how do i start.... I read few books and saw some videos.... but it was not what i was looking for....

I wanted to add subtle fog entering through the window with a gradual decay... I rendered a fog pass separately played with every blending option that there is in Photoshop and after effects... but i just couldn't get it done.... so please... would be really grateful if someone could help me solve my problem

Try masking the fog layer with the z-depth, play around with the layer's opacity.

Great thread title by the way, use something more descriptive next time.

Thank you, will try that now, and will make a note to be more specific from next time...
