trouble with black car paint

I have a black car paint shader that I'm struggling with. Problem is i can't get the paint to look dark enough unless i change the diffuse value to under 5 (/255) and i always thought blacks should never be that dark.

The scene is as per my Sig apart from I recently switched to vray and I'm half way through converting the shaders .

HDR is the same but I've fixed the exposure and linear workflow. My yellow paint is looking good and is same shader apart from diffuse colour.

Vray material
Ref map around 0.6
Gloss 0.95
Iof 2.0

I can post updated image tomorrow if that will help?
