No ways - Houdini operators are rare as hens' teeth so you'll have no trouble finding work.

With that said we made a lot of use of ICE on Khumba - both for fur and set dressing. Arnold loves instances I did a tiny little write up about what we did on Khumba over here. I'm going to add to that document and make sure its properly legible etc.

Arnold is the reason yes. I started learning Houdini out of my own curiosity about visual effects but I'm a rendering artist wanna-be, so I really, really want to try Arnold :O

@ArcticWolf - those bushes were all generated by ICE? Wow.

If you are a strong enough technically minded software twiddler to be making strides in Houdini, chances are you have a strong enough understanding of the fundamentals of CG and are curious enough to not hurt yourself if you pick up a second software just to play around in it to test a rendering engine.

It doesn't exactly require mastery levels to play with the shading and rendering sides of Softimage (or Maya for that matter, which for a rendering TD would be a good investment to make early on).

Don't drop Houdini, it's a good software to know for many reasons, both employment and learning wise, but there's no harm in expanding a bit what you can render a scene from if you have access to the software.

Well there might be some Arnold love for Houdini also. Keep in mind that Mantra is also 1st class render engine.

I just dropped by Solid Angle's site and notice there's Arnold for Houdini there among the others... anyone has more info about this?

There's a lot of talk about Arnold's simple slider to control quality - have any of you tried Solid Rocks for Vray, which makes use of a similar concept?

I've been using it with Vrayforc4d, and it's been an absolute lifesaver.

You might or might not get a definite answer, or a chance to play with it, but I haven't heard yet of them not offering the courtesy of a reply to any prospect that got in touch.

I'm sorry but I'm immensely confused. Is this incarnation of arnold render not the same arnold render that has been around literally 15 years?

I rememebr seeing the pepeland animation when I was in college and being blown away when I heard the whole scene was rendered in arnold and not just the main character. I had thought it was an animation comped onto video.

The website seems to be down but here is a crappy version of the video I'm talking about. It's copyrighted from 2000.
