HumanIK or Manual Skeleton Build?

Im curious about which is a better system. I was told that HumanIK is useful but its really more designed for multiple of the same skeleton. I like it because of the obvious reasons that it builds the skeleton and rig in a second. But Ive noticed some quarky things that keep messing things up. Is it better to build it all from scratch?

Personally I have not formed an opinion about humanIk yet.

I'd rather beable to control exactly what controls are used etc but doing a scripted skeleton and control rig build.
blah blah blah
