College Student Foundation Art

I've posted some of these before but some I haven't
I'm taking alot of foundation classes in Academy of Art University at the moment so I can prepared for 3D modeling. Haven't done any "Foundation" art before I came here so it was hard for me to get the understanding of it. Enjoy =)

Hey, these are really impressive. I'm assuming you're a freshman (or were) since this is all from foundation classes. I can tell you that it's a heck of a lot better than most of my stuff from foundation year. The toned drawing of the guy smoking has some wierd space issues when it comes to his skull, but other than that I found only minor quibbles.

How are you liking foundation at the Academy? I'm currently an illustration sophomore at UARTS and have mixed feelings about foundation year. What classes do you have to take? Do you find the work easy/difficult? I know that at first I thought the whole process was useless, but I can definitely admit that I learned a lot.

WOW.

That was very very impressive & very details. Are you able to do all that artwork after studying first year?...

I haven't been to any art class. I can draw but can't shade in texture.. All my shading are flat. I am greatly appreciated if you can give me some light on this matter.
Thanks

The foundations at the Academy is pretty good. Their grading system is really harsh so it's tough to get As... like my teacher said, "You must be able to draw like DaVinci for you to recieve an A." There are alot of different variations of skill in class. Some that are super good and some that super suck, which was me. Foundations depend on what kind of major you have. For me I'm 3D modeling major so I have to take like: Color and Design, Figure modeling, Analysis of Form, Figure Drawing and so forth. I found the art really difficult at first. Those foundation stuff you see up there, I put 20-30 hours on. You can tell that I'm an amature because there are some errors in the drawings. Yes I do agree, Foundation art is very important!

As for shading, I say you study Analysis of Form. It's all about the cast shadows, core shadows, form shadows, and so on. I'm pretty sure someone can find you a tutorial online. ^^

Well, your work really shows a lot of time and effort, and that is the most important thing of all. I certainly couldn't tell you super-sucked, and I'm impressed that you were able to commit so much to foundation assignments.

If you can apply this kind of work ethic to stuff you really enjoy, you'll go places - really great work.
