Vray SSS - Need help setting up a realistic chocolate shader

Hi,
I am working on a project to make a photorealistic ice cream and are having trouble with the chocolate shader.

I am using 3ds max with Vray, and have tried setting up a material with FastSSS2. I have managed to get an overall chocolate look, but where the geometry gets thin the material gets darker instead of lighter and more translucent. After what I understand this is a limitation of the shader where the distance between the face normals is less than the scatter radius?

I also tried making a blend material with a ScatterVolume shader as base and a VrayMtl shader as coat, but it didnt give the result I was looking for. I still didnt get the light through the thin parts of the geometry without making everything look transparent.

My scene setup is a standard 3 point lighting with vray lights and everthing is modeled to scale.

Any advice on how to achieve a material where the light bleeds through in the thin areas and still mantain an overall "solid" look?
