Dirtmap with dirty edges?

Hi guys, i've been trying to achieve an effect that looks like this:
http://www.maxunderground.com/archi...th_mental_ra y

The edges of a mesh receive the secondary material of a blend material.

I've followed the tutorial installation instructions and tried troubleshooting listed in the comments, but i can't get the 'Dirtmap' to appear in my mental ray maps list.

Is there any other approach that I can use to achieve this effect?

I'm using 3ds max 2012x64. mental ray.

Thanks

The files are all in the correct location and you added the link and mi entries to the 3dparty.mi file?

Paste the contents of your 3rdparty.mi file here. Also, just FYI if you ever upgrade past 2012 this functionality of Dirt is built-in to the mr Ambient Occlusion shader (Inverted Occlusion).

Upgrading isn't an option, atm. I can't use the Ao shader to achieve an effect like this in 2012?

Try changing the link line to full path of the plugin, or copy the # (commented out lines) and edit the dll and mi name to match the Dirt plugin. Apparently the tool is limited in what it can read and not sure if it needs quote marks (same mark on both sides) or open quote/close quote. So easiest to just copy and paste the commented out code and change the quoted names.

-Eric

EDIT: No the AO plugin in 2012 doesn't have the inverted occlusion option.

/include/mi "Dirtmap.mi"

It still doesn't work :(

try:

link "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2012\mentalimages\shaders_3rdparty\mentalray\shade rs\Dirtmap.dll"
mi "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2012\mentalimages\shaders_3rdparty\mentalray\inclu de\Dirtmap.mi"

NOTE: Fix forum posting bug to remove unneeded spaces in the paths.

Hi Guys,

A normal dirt_shader based only on "inverted AO" (Vray dirt or other Shaders) have many problems. I am Beta-Tester for Richtdirt 2.0 and with have many new good option. It have algorythmen special for architecture viz and it can find mesh problems and resolve it. I canīt say not more (NAD), but i can present some renderings.

here test Renderings in High-Resolutions: http://www.infinity-vision.de/blog/musterhausanlage

Richdirt 1.0 is at this time available, look here please (for mental ray & Vray): http://www.enrichpro.com/en/richdirt/index.html
