The Original Photo ref. ![]() Beauty Render : ![]() Grey scale, photoshopped : ![]() viewport renders : ![]() ![]() ![]() 1600X1200 image In this challenge I wanted to get a good representation of the original photo. I've used alot of simple modelling with primitives and low level techniques to get finished within the timeframe. I did have time to work on some of the finer details like the lionheads and the trees. What I would have liked to work more on is the texture work, but as this is a modelling challenge my focus was mainly on getting objects done. Most of the work has been done in 3ds max, and some parts altered in Zbrush. Textures are mostly just standard materials of max, but a few polypainted in Zbrush and modified in photoshop. Renders done with Mental Ray. Thanks for setting up the challenge I had a good time with it and I hope everyone else did as well. Good luck to everyone Regards Anders Pabst Ovesen |

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthr...?f=208&t=830998 the original ![]() finished ![]() 3 sided wire framed ![]() this is my first challenge in this HMC. i basically focus on modelling the cathedral. i didnt have much time texturing it and lighting it. i only used 3 directional light for the lighting and basic UV unwrapped for the texture and the rest are MIA_Materail_X. render in mental ray and grayscalled in photoshop and used noise for that grainny look. most of te modelling are done in maya 2008. kinda didnt make it on the deadline. but ill post anyway. thank for the challenge i learn alot from the challenge. Good luck on the other competitors hope i didnt miss anything regards Rocky---Rico271 Last edited by rico271 : 01 January 2010 at 01:01 AM. |

Ansel Adams Inspiration photo Youtube final video ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I really enjoyed making this model and attempted a faithful representation. I wish I had found more references to build the inside of the church but for some reason there just are not very many on the web. I also learned quite a bit. For instance, before this project I did not know how to mix textures on a single object with vertex paint. Doing so really helped add variety to the ground. I have about four weeks worth of work into this. It was all created in 3DS Max 2008 64 bit and rendered in Mental Ray. CS2 Photoshop for textures. Final comp done with Windows Live Movie Maker. In the final video I did no post processing other than the addition of text. I sure hope I am not forgetting anything. ![]() Good luck, to everyone participating and a big thanks to Roberto ![]() __________________

Best WIP - Aovesen
Best Model - Aovesen This was a really unique topic for the HMC, and it's too bad there weren't more participants. You guys all did a great job on your finished pieces, and the vote was really tough. You were all in the same category of quality, and Aovesen just got my vote by a hair. If I could, I would have voted for all of them. Cheers guys and hope to see you in the next challenge as well. -rage |

Best WIP - Aovesen
Best Model - Aovesen Yeah, too bad only so few people participated. I would have expected more entries with so many people being into arch-viz etc these days, but I guess more people here do characters. I personally found the topic a bit creatively suffocating, to tell the truth, having centered my creative efforts around characters and storytelling. Great work everybody! ![]() __________________

Good job guys.
Best Model - JohNLA I based my entire entry on this print I had hanging on my wall for years. When the topic came up I searched and searched everywhere for it. Apparently my wife didn't recall where she moved it because it is gone. That just killed my drive after that, ah well. __________________

Best WIP: JohNLA
Best Model: aovesen Didn't get to follow this one as closely as I usually try to but I did enjoy it when I could. Glad that the three of you were able to finish your projects, all came out pretty well. Hopefully the next challenge will see more people complete it. |
