Perforated ceiling issues

Hi, Im up for a series of ceiling illustrations which are all steel sheets perforated with small holes. They are modeled as individual cassettes where each is a a box conv. to edit poly and then the top poly is deleted. The sides are non-perforated frames and the horisontal poly in the bottom is the perforated sheet. Now, which is the best way to go around this? Since the back side of the frames will not be rendered it will not look good. If I use a shell modifier I will get a lot a problems on the perforated area... Oh, and Im using an Arch n Design material that has no "2-sides" shader option...

Greatful for advise!
Johan
