Having Trouble Merging...

Hey everyone, this is my first post.

I'm new to Nuke and I come from a Layer based compositing program, After Effects. I'm having a little difficulty managing the Merge nodes. So if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated.

I have a person keyed out, a background plate, and lots of assets. This is what I'd like to happen:

The keyed "(cut-out) person" have the sparks behind them.

"Person over background" having smoke over them.

(I have lots of sparks and smoke) Then put together through one node.

If there is a method that is always used I would really like to know this.

I've attached a ScreenShot. Please tell me if you need any more information.

Thanks for helping me out!

so, what is the actual question? whats not working?

but from your description i would build my flow this way:

    sparks     person    smoke
        |         |        |
bg->merge ->   merge  ->  merge
