How can I get z depth from maya painte effect brush?


I am using maya 2011. I used paint effect brush to created some trees.
I converted them to polygons and I rendered the scene.
I can extract z buffer map by "z" key from saved image, except the paint effect trees.
The rendered image renders all the trees and buildings that I created, but somehow, I can get z buffer from all the objects except the trees.

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I don't know where to ask this problem.
