What 3D program is right for me...?
More of a hobbyist than anything, but I'd like to integrate more 3D work into my professional graphic, web design and minor motion graphics work.
I'm not a unfamiliar with 3D so I'm not worried about an extensive learning curve, my issue is there are just so many options but I'd like one solid 3D platform to do the following:
- Character modelling (hobby)
- Object modelling (hobby / professional work)
- 3D for motion graphics (professional)
I have experience with Cinema 4D which is great for Motion Graphics but I found it lacking in the character modelling department. Conversely I really enjoy Sculptris for just sheer character sculpting but I don't have any program to rig it so it's sort of just for fun.
Right now I'm trying to decide between:
- 3DS Max
- Cinema 4D
I'm thinking it's probably going to come down to either 3DS Max or Maya but I was hoping for a nudge in one direction or another. Im actually sort of interested in what people might have to say about Modo considering it's a much more affordable option but I'm unsure about it's ability to do fun, organic type of stuff.
Can you rig import work from Sculptris into Modo?
Or maybe I haven't given Cinema 4D enough of a chance in terms of modelling characters, etc...?
Just for reference, here is the type of work I want to do more of...this is work from Ars Thanea, they do a lot of combining 3D and 2D artwork that's really neat and fun:
Thanks for the advice!
