Head Of Cg, Tv Vfx Dept

Freefolk are looking for a Head of CG for it’s Longform VFX department to drive long term strategy and oversee day to day operations.  We are looking for someone with senior experience in a TV or Film VFX department who will take responsibility for the quality of all output. The ideal candidate will be used to mentoring and leading teams both technically and creatively, be positive and forward thinking in their approach to everything and above all, love what they do. 

Responsibilities Maintain quality control for all CG output of Longform Film & TVReview storyboards and script breakdowns for VFX requirements and compile VFX bids in conjunction with creative director and production as required.Lead VFX complexity assessments of scenes and ensures their production feasibility.Lead jobs, which may involve on the box time.Review and advise on department recruitment needs and take part in the hiring process.Carry out artist reviews and performance feedback.Develop & standardise lookdev methodologies. ie, plausible shaders, BRDF models, shading methodologies, uber-shaders, Renderers, etc. etc.Maintain and further develop CG pipeline in conjunction with our pipeline developer.Further develop ftrack integration in regard to cam, geo, luts, caches (etc) with main packages (Houdini, Maya, Nuke, Flame, etc).Architect large jobs. Set large assets up in a modular and scalable fashion that allows multiple people to work simultaneously on various parts of the asset and also allows asset to be centrally updated and used on large pipeline jobs.Be responsible for day-to-day inter-departmental workflow in conjunction with Pipeline, Systems & Production.Supervise any early development, testing and R&D needed for tools and VFX pipeline.Develop & expand our mocap library and "assetize" it (ftrack).
QualitiesAttention to detail, project management and organisational skills.Full understanding of the VFX process.Ability to work in a team.Technical understanding and experience with CG Pipelines with a desire to develop efficient workflows and identify additional tools required.Excellent Maya / Houdini skills.Proven track record of working on large VFX heavy projects.
