How to keep normals when boolean-ing?

I need to cut a cylinder in a side of another cylinder, in short.. as you can see here:

The problem is, the normals on the side of the "parent" cylinder are ruined. Note that I need it to be low poly cause it's for a game.. Now if it was a box, it would be easy to match to the vertical edge to the side of the "hole" and just steal the normal values from vertices on the top... But since it's a round hole on a round surface, that's a problem.

Is there a way to freeze normals on the cylinder before cutting a hole so that the normals on the new vertices are correct?

Ok, I've managed to do it using the normal thief plugin by copying the original cylinder and then pasting the normals to the one with a hole.

It would be nice though if there was a max function to solve this. Is there one?
