Selectively smooth corners with NURMS


I am currently trying to replicate an example from my 3dsMax-Book, where a couch is being made. Everything went well so far, except for the chaise cushion box. As you can see on the screenshot, I made a box, added a seam via extrusion (which is why there are so many edges), added a lot of edges with the swift loop tool in order to use NURMS on the box. The result looks good on most of the box, however the corner is being extruded way too much. Manually adjusting the edges just breaks everything, since I can only adjust the control-edges for the NURMS-algorithm, not the real edges. Does anybody know a way to cut out that corner so it looks more real? It doesn't really matter for the couch, but this was a learning excercise, so I kind of want to know. Thank you in advance.
