Surface Shader missing surface group

Surface Shader missing surface group

I'm trying to add a simple surface shader, and the sg node isnt there....any ideas?

AFAIK the sg node is created when you apply the shader on the node. If thats not the case, create it on your own:
createNode shadingEngine;


Then connect the two nodes:
connectAttr -f  "yourShader.outColor" "yourShadingEngine.surfaceShader";

thanks! not sure why it didn't work on that specific scene but this solved it
