I cannot speak for the powers that be, of course, but if this was my picture, these are the things I would work on:

1. Except for the pyrotechnics, the image as a whole (and specifically the figure) lacks texture. I would add texture to the girl's clothing, especially, and work some on the shadows in her face, too.
2. I would add a little more warmth to her skin tone. I know it's a very blue picture and you don't want to distract too much from the fireworks, but she looks dead. She very badly needs some pink to her cheeks and it wouldn't hurt to add it other places as well.
3. The hand! There are no wrinkles or lines, not even fingernails. Lots of times, this is acceptable, but if you're trying to get into the 2D gallery here, I would do a lot of work on the hand. Treat it like a face and pay attention to all the different planes in this highly sophisticated member.

The figure lacks readability in the forms, due to the fairly flat lighting. Light your subjects so that you create an interesting interplay of light and shadow that define the forms, otherwise a flat lighting will give you a flat looking subject where there's no sense of dimensional depth.

Thank you so much for the advise, I will revise and improve the painting.
