loops and poly count

greetings

I'm working in a base model for a project. The animation is gonna be really limited, almost pose like, few frames per action, no detail shots, mostly silhouettes and no dialogues either. The thing is, i show the model to a project partner, whom i consider to be my senior in modeling and he says that the model does not work, that i should re-do the model entirely. He says to me that theres a lot of unnecessary geometry and that the model will not deform well when rigged. i made a quick rig to test it and is working fine. So i ask, is the model really that bad?, the poly count is low, around 960 polys, not sure why the fixation with this.

heres a pic of the model http://imageshack.us/f/515/modelay.jpg

thanks for any advice or comment

It should have a bit more edges to it. Especially on the arm area.
