Thinking Particles Fracturing to obvious

I'm trying to have CG hand turn to dust but the hand becomes very obvious that its fractured when i activate TP. Is there a way to fix this?
Heres a picture of the problem on the left is the hand as normal geometry
and on the right is the version of an instance shaped mesh in TP. I'm using
I'm using a VrayFastSSS2 which makes the fracturing very obvious, i tried a default vray material and its less obvious but still clear when transitioning from normal geom to the TP mesh. I woudl prefer to be able to still use VrayFastSSS2

SSS and interior faces won't work well I guess? You could render a fragmented and an intact one, and swipe them in comp.

Thats what i have ended up doing, it works pretty well due to the linear fracturing, but i can see in more chaotic situations it would be way too difficult to simply do that.
