mental ray batch bake Quality

I am trying to bake a light map for a scene and having issues with graininess from the shadows of point lights. I am using raytrace shadows and each has about 0.2 radius with 10 shadow rays, and a linear decay rate.

The problem is that when I go to Render Settings to the Quality tab, I can adjust the Raytrace/Scanline Quality Sample Levels and Anti-aliasing contrast to get a render view of the scene that looks great without the graininess, but that does not affect my batch bake.

Is there something I need to change for the quality settings to affect the bake results or are these settings merely for rendering pictures of your scene? I was under the impression this would have an affect.

EDIT: I couldn't manage to figure it out, but I was at least able to render smoother shadows by bumping up the shadow rays to 128.
