How do you create a 'dummy object' in Maya?

How do you create a 'dummy object' in Maya?

And is that what it is called in Maya? I know it is called that in 3DStudioMax - if it is called something else in Maya - please let me know what and where it is on a Menu....thxs!

createNode "transform" -n "dummy";


it's essentially an empty transform node.

I think "locator" is probaby the closest thing, but In Maya you can also create empty transforms and implicit cubes, spheres and cones.

you'll find locators on the standard create menu

Just hit Ctrl+G
