is this a problem specifically with Maya? I saw something that turned out to be my new Dell U2713HM screen and not the OS. When I'd mouse over a face and it was taking up most of the screen, then off of the face, the screen seemed to flicker slightly. It turned out to be monitor sort of losing focus temporarily because of the stippling that Maya uses for preselection highlighting and it doesn't happen on my NEC screen.

from what I'm reading, seems like a osx issue

can you send me a link to something that says that? I just swapped the Dell screen from my Mac to my CentOS 3930K and the exact same thing shows up there in Maya. If you're talking about the thing I'm seeing, then it's the screen

maybe you're seeing a different problem. Try increasing the camera’s Near Clip Plane to something in the 1.000 - 3.000 range and see if that fixes it.
