Smoking Robot, Axel Akesson (3D)

Title: Smoking Robot
Name: Axel Akesson
Country: Germany/sweden
Software: Softimage|xsi 4.0

Hey!

After a lot of work... it's finally complete.
I hope I've improved a bit since my last robot.

Some info:

Done in XSI 4.0
- Standard lights used.
- A few reflection passes used to get nice reflections (no HDRI).
- Rendered in 2K, 16 bit and composited using the FX Tree and final touches in Photoshop CS.
- Too many passes.

Reference image from the book "1000 robots, spaceships & other tin toys", Teruhisa Kitahara & Yukio Shimizu, published through Taschen.

The little scratches on the robots body really add to the realism. Nice job.

Well done! I like the design of it!
Try to do an advertising poster of the robot in the old 50s-Style!

I once had a robot that did that back in the late 80's or early 90's, I forget. No cigarette, but smoke would come out of its mouth. I'd be surprised if they were allowed to make something like that today, though. A bunch of parents would probably file lawsuits claiming that it made their children want to smoke or something. Kinda makes me feel old.

Overrall i like the image, i think the robot is a bit too shiny, when i look at him, i think tin, and tin is rarely ever that shiny, i'd dent him up a bit, or even if he's brand new, give him more of a metallic sheen, he looks plastic in areas right now, i like the concept and the model though, looks very cool. As for Slag, if you have valid criticism, i think any of us would be happy to field it or respond, but just making a simple stupid comment is rude and pointless.
