Placka (Old Town Athens), Robert Burke (3D)

Title: Placka (Old Town Athens)
Name: Robert Burke
Country: United Kingdom
Software: Blender

I decided to have a go at this scene because it would help develop my texturing skills, something I have little experience of, usually using blender for product modelling and design. It came about after a trip to Athens where I managed to grab a few hours to look around. I loved the Plaka area, the Café culture and steep narrow alleyways. The character of the old buildings was fabulous. I have tried to recreate the same sun baked character of the old town.

Thumbs up

Really a nice work but what is disturbing me that is stone texture behind the chairs.

hey!! very nice attempt!!!
that is Plaka alright.....
my only crit is that there should be more weathering on your models....I see some very clean edges in your scene that i don't like.
BUT you managed to capture the colours and the setup very nice...which i guess was your priority

Thanks for the comments.

I set out to use this as a way to learn texturing. Most of my 3D work is based around mechanical modelling, so this was all new to me. Theirs a few tutorials on my site about mechanical modelling, www.rab3d.com

I have learnt a lot from this scene and had loads of helpful advice from others. Knowing what I know now, the next project shouldn’t take so long and I can avoid the same pitfalls that I fell into with this one.

I have also learnt a lot about the capabilities of Gimp, which was used to draw the textures.
